Part of Alexa Maithé's artistic philosophy is the rebirth of forgotten materials. By repurposing reclaimed wood and found objects, each sculpture becomes entirely one of a kind, carrying the history of the materials into a new life.

Torii the Dragon is a restored mythical being inspired by the symbolism of the Japanese torii gate—a sacred threshold that marks the transition between the ordinary and the spiritual world. The sculpture is painted in vermilion red, the traditional color of many torii gates, which has long symbolized protection, purification, vitality, and the warding off of negative energies. Historically, this pigment also helped preserve the wood, giving the color both spiritual and practical significance.

Accompanied by an original poem and story, Torii the Dragon invites viewers to cross their own inner threshold, embracing transformation, awareness, and the timeless dialogue between nature, myth, and spirit.
